The latest Windows 11 update brings native screen recording capabilities through the built-in Snipping Tool. This integrated feature eliminates the need for third-party screen recording software, making it simpler to capture video tutorials, demonstrations, and online meetings directly from your system.
Recording steps for Windows 11 screens
Make sure your Windows 11 is running the latest version. Update your system through Windows Update in Settings if needed.
Important: Can’t find the recording feature? Head to Microsoft Store’s Library section and update the Snipping Tool app.
- Open Windows search by clicking the magnifying glass icon in your taskbar.
- Search for “Snipping Tool” and launch the app from search results.
- Find and click the camera icon at the top to access recording mode.
- Start a new recording by clicking the “New” button.
- Draw a rectangle around your desired recording area. For full-screen capture, drag from corner to corner. Remember that you can’t change the selection area once recording begins.
- Click “Start” on the toolbar to begin recording your screen.
- During recording, you can:
- Pause/resume using the pause/play buttons
- Delete the current recording
- Stop recording when finished
- After stopping, preview your recording in the Snipping Tool window. Save it by clicking the save icon in the top-right corner. Videos automatically save to your Videos folder, but you can choose a different location.
- Want to share your recording? Use the Share button to send it through Outlook, Teams, Mail, or Nearby sharing.
While this native screen recording tool might occasionally show minor quirks, it serves as a practical solution for basic screen capture needs without installing additional software.
