Ever needed to join a Google Meet session but didn’t have a Google account? It’s totally possible, and here’s how you can do it.
Method 1: Joining as a Guest
This is the easiest and most effective way to join a Google Meet call without a Google account. If the meeting organizer has enabled guest access, you can join directly using just the meeting link.
-
Get the meeting link from the organizer. This will be a URL that they have shared with you.
-
Open your web browser and paste or type the provided meeting link into the address bar and hit enter.
-
You’ll be taken to the Google Meet landing page where you will be prompted to enter your name. Type in your name or how you want to appear in the call.
-
Click “Ask to join” or the equivalent button.
-
Wait for the meeting host to admit you. Once they approve your request, you’ll be connected to the meeting.
Method 2: Using a Nickname (Less Common)
Sometimes, hosts use nicknames to allow specific users to join a meeting. Note that this isn’t as common as guest access but could be an alternative.
- When a meeting organizer gives you the meeting details, check if they have also given you a nickname. It could be a name or code they want you to use to identify yourself in the call.
- Instead of the direct meeting link, the host may give you a general Google Meet join page along with a nickname. Open that page in your browser.
- Enter the nickname provided by the host.
- Once you enter the nickname, you might be directed to the waiting room where the host will admit you to the meeting.
Remember, guest access (method 1) is the most common and reliable way to join Google Meet without a Google account. Always check the meeting details provided by the organizer for specific instructions or a nickname if guest access doesn’t work.
