Taylor Lautner Returns to Werewolf Genre in New Amazon Series

Taylor Lautner, widely recognized for his portrayal of Jacob Black in the Twilight saga, is poised to revisit his werewolf-centric past (though no vampires are confirmed) in the newly announced Amazon series, Taylor Lautner: Vampire Hunter.

While Lautner has continued to appear in various films and television shows since his breakout role as Black (Grown Ups 2, The Ridiculous 6, Home Team), he is most indelibly linked to the love triangle involving a werewolf, a vampire, and a persistently moody teenager.

In what appears to be a strategy to reconnect with his now-adult fanbase, Variety reports that Lautner will star in a new series as himself.

Brought to Amazon by Tornante (the studio behind Bojack Horseman, offering a glimmer of hope), Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter will uniquely build upon Lautner’s appearance in the Twilight films (in a fourth-wall-breaking manner). The premise involves Lautner concluding filming on Breaking Dawn Part 2 before joining forces with a “real-life” team of werewolf hunters, presumably to protect the world from the lycanthrope threat.

The concept is layered with irony, particularly given that the series will revolve around Lautner combating the very creatures that propelled him to fame. A love story is also anticipated (hopefully with a more appealing character than Bella), alongside his efforts to maintain his Hollywood career during the day.

The latter aspect may be a bit of a stretch. Of the main Twilight cast, Lautner has arguably had the smallest Hollywood presence since the last movie concluded. However, the Bojack connection instills hope. Bojack Horseman is a masterful tragicomedy, largely centered on a washed-up former star who has lost his way. Hopefully, Amazon can successfully replicate that magic.

This series offers a potentially self-aware and humorous take on fame and past roles.
