Super Drag and Drop: Boost Edge Browsing

Hey everyone, did you know Microsoft Edge has a hidden gem called Super Drag and Drop? It’s a seriously cool feature that makes browsing way faster and easier. Basically, it lets you open links or search for text just by dragging them anywhere on the page. Here’s the lowdown.

Super Drag and Drop takes a different approach than standard browsers. Instead of dragging text to the address bar to search, or links to open them, this feature lets you drag selected text or links anywhere on the current page, and Edge handles the rest by automatically opening the content in a new tab! It really speeds things up and feels much more intuitive.

Good news is activating Super Drag and Drop is very straightforward, but since it’s not visible by default, you’ll need to enable it through Edge’s experimental settings. Here’s how to turn it on:

Enabling Super Drag and Drop

Step 1: Open Microsoft Edge and head to the experimental flags page by typing edge://flags into the address bar and hitting Enter.

This opens up the “Experiments” page, which lists features that are still in testing and haven’t made it to the main release yet.

Step 2: In the search box at the top of the page, type in Super Drag and Drop to quickly find the setting.

Step 3: When the “Super Drag and Drop” flag shows up under the “Available” section, click the dropdown menu next to it and choose “Enabled”.

Step 4: Edge will ask you to restart the browser after enabling the flag. Just click the “Restart” button that pops up at the bottom right.

Step 5: After Edge restarts, type edge://settings/appearance into the address bar and press Enter to get to the browser’s appearance settings.

Step 6: Scroll down until you see the “Customize browser” section and flip the switch for “Enable Super Drag and Drop” to turn the feature on.

Configuring Super Drag and Drop

Once you’ve turned on Super Drag and Drop, you can tweak its settings to work the way you want.

Step 1: Click the arrow next to “Configure Super Drag and Drop” to open up the settings panel.

Step 2: You’ll see an “Open Mode” option. Use the dropdown to choose whether links should open in a background tab or the current tab when you drag and drop them.

Step 3: Similarly, under “Search Mode,” pick your preferred search engine for when you drag and drop text. You can choose between Bing or any other default search engine you’ve set up.

Using the Super Drag and Drop Feature

Alright, now that Super Drag and Drop is up and running, here’s how to use it:

Step 1: On any webpage, just select a link and drag it a little bit in any direction, then let go. You don’t need to drag it all the way to the address bar or anything.

The link will pop open in a new tab, making browsing multiple pages super quick.

Step 2: Same goes for text! Select any text on a page, drag it a tiny bit, and release. Edge will use your chosen search engine to search for that text in a new tab.

Super Drag and Drop really does streamline browsing by making it easier to open links and look up info. It’s great for anyone, especially if you’re on a touchscreen device or just want a smoother browsing experience.
