Microsoft Edge, like some other apps, runs some background tasks at startup to help it launch quicker. This can be handy if you use Edge often, but it can also use up memory and CPU, possibly making your computer take longer to boot. If you’re not a frequent Edge user, stopping it from starting automatically can boost your system’s performance.
Method 1: Using Task Manager
This method directly prevents Edge from launching at startup using Task Manager.
-
Open Task Manager by pressing
Ctrl+Shift+Esc
on your keyboard. This will let you control which programs start with your system.
-
Go to the “Startup” tab within Task Manager. This tab lists all the applications set to run when you turn on your computer.
-
Find “Microsoft Edge” in the list of startup programs.
-
Right-click “Microsoft Edge” and choose “Disable.” This will stop Edge from opening automatically when you start your computer.
-
Make sure the status of Microsoft Edge now says “Disabled” in the “Startup” tab. This confirms that it won’t open at boot.
By preventing Microsoft Edge from starting automatically, you’re freeing up system resources and potentially speeding up your computer’s boot time.
