Show battery percentage on Windows 11

Hey everyone, here’s how you can display the battery percentage on your Windows 11 taskbar. Microsoft is finally rolling out a native option for this, but there are also a couple of workarounds if you don’t have the update yet.

Method 1: Enable battery percentage from the Settings app

This is the easiest way if you have the latest update!

  1. Open the Settings app. You can do this from the Start menu or by pressing the Win + I keys. Then, click ‘System’ on the left-hand side.

  1. In the System settings, find and select ‘Power & Battery’.

  1. Expand the ‘Battery’ section. You’ll find a toggle labeled ‘Show battery percentage’. Just click the toggle to turn it on.

Method 2: Enable battery percentage using the ViveTool

If the setting isn’t showing up for you, you can try using ViveTool. This requires being on a Windows Insider build. If you’re not an Insider, you’ll need to sign up for the program first.

  1. Go to the ViveTool GitHub page in your web browser.

  2. Scroll down to the downloads and grab the ViVeTool-v0.3.3-ARM64CLR.zip file (or the latest version available).

  1. Extract the downloaded ZIP file. Open the extracted folder.

  1. Copy the path to the extracted folder from the File Explorer address bar.

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator. Search for cmd in the Start menu, then right-click and select “Run as administrator”.

  1. In the Command Prompt window, type cd (that’s “cd” followed by a space) and then paste the path you copied earlier. It should look something like this: cd C:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.x.x. Press Enter.

  1. Now, paste the following command and hit Enter: vivetool /enable /id:48822452,48433719.

  1. Restart your computer. After rebooting, check your Settings app to see if the battery percentage option is available.

Method 3: Use Battery Bar to show battery percentage

If you’re not on an Insider build or just want an alternative, Battery Bar is a solid third-party app.

  1. Go to the BatteryBar website and download the app.

  2. Run the installer. When you get to the “Select Components” screen, make sure you select both “BatteryBar Toolbar (recommended)” and “BatteryBar Floating Toolbar” options.

  1. Finish the installation and restart your PC. The BatteryBar indicator should now be visible. Click on it to switch the display from “time remaining” to battery percentage. You can also resize and move the indicator around.

Things to know

  • The native battery percentage option might not be available for everyone yet, as it’s rolling out with updates.
  • You can customize taskbar icons in the Personalization settings to make sure the battery percentage is easily visible.
  • Backing up your system before using third-party apps is always a good idea. This allows you to revert any unwanted changes.
  • There are other apps out there besides Battery Bar that can display the battery percentage. Feel free to explore and find one that suits you best.
