WhatsApp has really upped its game over the years, adding tons of useful features. One of the newest is a built-in document scanner, which means you don’t need extra apps to digitize your papers. If you need to quickly scan things like forms or receipts, here’s how you can do it directly in WhatsApp.
- First, open WhatsApp and go to the chat where you want to send the scanned document.
- Tap the ‘+’ icon to attach something to your message.
- Then, tap the ‘Document’ option.
- Tap ‘Scan’ which should appear as an option to activate your phone’s camera.
- Position your camera over the document so it can detect the edges clearly.
- WhatsApp will highlight the edges and automatically capture the document. You can scan multiple pages by placing them in the frame for WhatsApp to capture.
- Once scanned, tap the document preview at the bottom-left to review it.
- You can now adjust the scan’s color, rotate, crop, delete, or retake it from this menu. Tap ‘Done’ when you’re satisfied with the scanned document.
- Next, tap on ‘Save’.
- Your scanned document will now show up in the chat as a PDF. You can add a caption or send it directly by tapping the ‘Send’ button.
Things to keep in mind
- Ensure the document you’re scanning is clear and easy to read. This will help WhatsApp accurately detect, scan, and create the PDF version.
- WhatsApp allows you to scan multiple pages into a single digital document, and all scanned documents are end-to-end encrypted for privacy.
- This feature is being rolled out to both Android and iOS, so you might need to wait for an update if you don’t see it yet.
- You can use the scanning feature offline as it doesn’t need an internet connection to work.
