Rumor: Bungie Plans To Address Marathon Fans Directly

Sony’s first State of Play event of 2025 concluded on February 12th. While some announcements generated excitement, fans awaiting news on Bungie’s upcoming Marathon were left wanting. Here’s a possible explanation.

Industry insider Jeff Grub suggests Bungie prefers to communicate directly with its audience regarding Marathon, rather than through platforms like State of Play. He anticipates an update around April.

“Marathon wasn’t there because they’re probably going to do their own thing. Bungie does their own thing usually for Destiny, they’re going to adopt that same “we’re talking to our audience” strategy this year as well, so I think in April we’ll probably hear from them about Marathon and it would just be its own thing separate from a State of Play.”~ Jeff Grub

Bungie’s reimagining of its classic franchise will be a science-fiction extraction shooter, with players fighting for survival and renown in a dynamic environment. Further information about Marathon can be found here.

The game remains under development. It is slated for release on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC, though a definitive launch date is yet to be announced, despite speculation of a possible April release.

Ultimately, fans will have to remain patient and await official communication from Bungie themselves.
