Hey everyone, check out this AI tool I’ve been playing with called Riffusion. It’s pretty cool – lets you whip up music from text prompts, kind of like Suno.
It’s still in beta, which means it’s currently free to use as much as you want. Basically, you give Riffusion an idea, a few words, or even hum a tune, and it tries to turn it into a complete song.
Right now, it’s running on the FUZZ 0.8 model. The developers seem to be updating it quickly, so that might change fast. Heads up though, FUZZ 0.8 might goof up the lyrics sometimes.
Getting Started with Riffusion
Okay, so here’s how to get started:
-
First, head over to riffusion.com.
-
When you click in the prompt box, it’ll ask you to sign up. You can make an account with your phone number, Google account, or Discord account.
-
Make sure to agree to the terms and conditions, then hit ‘Continue’.
- Pick a username, click ‘Done’, and you’re all set!
Creating a Song
Alright, let’s make some music!
- Click the ‘Create Bar’ to get started.
- Riffusion offers two main ways to create music: Prompt and Compose.
Prompt
This is the quickest and easiest way to get a song going. You just type a description of what you want into the Create bar.
- For example, you could try something like “country song about a recent break up” or “jazzy k-pop song about how great life is”.
-
The more details you add to your prompt, the better the results will likely be.
-
For example, instead of “country song”, try “country song, female vocals, guitar riffs, breakup song.”
-
If you’re stuck on what to write, hit the ‘Random’ button and let Riffusion come up with something.
- If you just want an instrumental track, flip the ‘Instrumental’ toggle.
- Click ‘Generate’, and Riffusion will cook up two songs based on your prompt and put them in your library. They’ll even have titles and thumbnails.
Compose
This option gives you more control.
-
Compose lets you fine-tune things a bit more.
-
The big difference is that you can separate the lyrics and sounds. Plus, it’s got some advanced settings we’ll get to in a bit. For now, let’s focus on Lyrics, Sound, and the Ghostwriter.
-
Just like in Prompt mode, there’s an ‘Instrumental’ toggle if you don’t want any singing.
-
If you do want lyrics, you’ve got two choices: either type them in yourself in the ‘Add lyrics’ box, or use the Ghostwriter. The Ghostwriter generates lyrics based on a prompt you give it.
-
In the ‘Sound’ section, tell Riffusion what kind of genre, vibe, or sounds you’re going for.
-
There’s also an ‘Advanced options’ toggle. Turning this on reveals a bunch of new settings.
-
Now you can add multiple sound prompts, each with its own ‘strength’ slider and start/end times. The strength slider tells Riffusion how closely to follow the prompt, and the start/end times let you control when that sound appears in the song.
-
You can also tweak the ‘Lyrics’ strength’ and ‘weirdness’ sliders to fine tune the generated lyrics.
-
Finally, there’s the ‘Seed’ option. The seed controls how random the song generation is. Without a seed, you’ll get different songs every time, even with the same prompt. But if you use a seed, you’ll get the exact same song every time you use the same prompt and seed.
Note: If you use a seed number, you can change small parts of your prompt to create controlled variations of a song you already like. Without the seed number, changing even the smallest parts of a prompt will get you a completely random song.
- You can even upload your own songs to Riffusion and use AI to mess with them. When you upload, you get three choices: imagine a cover/remix, extend the song, or replace parts of it.
Other things to know
-
By default, the songs you make are private, and only people with the link can hear them. But you can also publish them to the platform.
-
Once you publish a song, anyone on Riffusion can remix it. If you don’t want that, keep it private.
