Moving Your Safari Data to Microsoft Edge on Mac

Switching from Safari to Microsoft Edge on your Mac? Maybe you prefer Edge’s interface or need it for specific web apps. No matter the reason, bringing your data over doesn’t have to be a headache. While not everything transfers directly, there are a couple of straightforward ways to get it done. Let’s look at how to move your browsing history and bookmarks.

Method 1: Using Edge’s Built-in Import Feature

Edge has a built-in tool that makes importing your Safari data pretty easy. You can pick and choose what you want to bring over.

First, fire up Microsoft Edge. You can usually find it in your Dock or in the Launchpad.

Next, click the three-dot menu (the “kebab menu”) at the top right of the Edge window and then select “Settings”.

In the Settings page, make sure you click on “Profiles” in the left sidebar.

Now, on the right side, under “Your Profile,” you’ll see “Import browser data”. Click on it to proceed.

In the following screen, you’ll find the “Import from other browsers” section. Click on “Choose what to import” button. This will open a new popup window.

A window will pop up. Here, click the dropdown menu labeled “Import from” and select “Safari”.

Check the box next to “Browsing history” and click “Import”.

Sometimes, Edge might ask for “Full Disk Access.” If you see a prompt like the one below, here’s how to grant it:

Open “System Preferences” from the dock or the Launchpad.

Click on the “Security & Privacy” icon.

Select the “Privacy” tab.

Click the lock icon at the bottom left and authenticate with your password or fingerprint. Then, find “Full Disk Access” in the left sidebar and click the “+” button. A new window will appear.

Locate “Microsoft Edge” in the list and double-click on it to grant it full disk access.

Make sure Microsoft Edge is closed before doing this.

Now, re-open Microsoft Edge. Go back to the “Profiles” section, and click “Import browser data”.

Click on “Choose what to import” under the “Import from other browsers” section.

In the popup window, select “Safari” from the “Import from” dropdown menu.

Finally, check the boxes for “Favorites or bookmarks” and “Browsing history” and then hit “Import”.

You’ll get a confirmation message once the import is done.

That’s it! Your bookmarks and history should now be in Edge. If for any reason you’re still having trouble with bookmarks, the next method offers a manual workaround.

Method 2: Manually Importing Bookmarks via HTML File

Sometimes, the direct import might not grab all your bookmarks. In that case, you can export your Safari bookmarks to an HTML file and import that into Edge.

Open up Safari on your Mac.

Click on “File” in the menu bar and then “Export Bookmarks”. A new window will appear.

Choose where you want to save the HTML file and hit “Save”.

Now, open Microsoft Edge.

Click the three-dot menu and go to “Settings”.

Select “Profiles” in the left sidebar.

Click “Import browser data” from the right side of the window.

Click on “Choose what to import” under “Import from other browsers”.

In the dropdown under “Import from”, select “Favorites or Bookmarks HTML File”.

Click “Choose File”. A Finder window will open.

Find and select the HTML file you saved earlier, then click “Open”.

You’ll get a notification once the import is complete.

Following these steps, you should have all your browsing history and bookmarks moved over from Safari to Microsoft Edge.
