Microsoft Readies "Important" Windows Recall update for Insiders

Microsoft is gearing up to enhance the AI-driven Recall feature for Copilot+ PCs, with an update on its way to Dev Channel testers. The release of Windows 11 24H2 build 26120.3281 sets the stage for upcoming improvements to Recall.

“We’re improving Recall on the next update,” the Windows Insider team announced. “This important update will improve your experience. As part of this upcoming update, your existing snapshots will be deleted.”

Windows 11 24H2 build 26120.3281 is now available for Dev Channel testers, along with Insiders in the Beta Channel who have opted to receive 24H2 builds. Beta testers who prefer to remain on the 23H2 track can download build 22635.4945. This alternative build contains minor changes to the Desktop Spotlight icon, in addition to bug fixes.

Recall, a central AI feature designed to help sell Copilot+ PCs, has seen a gradual improvement process. Recall captures regular snapshots of PC activity, enabling information retrieval through natural language prompts. While the feature is optional on Copilot+, its privacy implications previously led to delays.

The 24H2 build 26120.3281 also introduces cross-device resume notifications for OneDrive personal files recently accessed on mobile devices. Additionally, users can now share files directly from jump lists on the taskbar. A redesigned Snap Layouts experience aims to enhance feature discoverability.

The most effective way to manage your Recall experience is through the updated system tray flyout.

Step 1: Locate the Recall icon in the system tray.

Step 2: Click the Recall icon to open the system tray flyout.

Step 2: Navigate to the Privacy & Security section.

Step 3: Select Recall & snapshots.
