Hey everyone,
Is anyone else having trouble with Instagram constantly logging them out? It’s super annoying to have to keep entering my details to get back in. It seems like a pretty common issue, so I thought I’d share some fixes that might help. It could be anything from app bugs to server issues causing the problem. Let’s try a few things!
First, let’s check if it’s actually an issue on Instagram’s end.
Check Instagram servers
Before trying anything else, it’s worth checking if Instagram’s servers are having a bad day. If the servers are down, that’s probably why you’re getting logged out, and you’ll just have to wait for them to fix it. You can use a site like downdetector to check server status. If everything looks good on their end, then let’s move on to some fixes we can try on our end.
Okay, now let’s try some fixes.
Method 1: Reinstall the app
Sometimes, the best solution is a fresh start. Uninstalling and then reinstalling Instagram can fix a lot of weird issues.
-
On Android, tap and hold the Instagram icon. You’ll see some options pop up.
-
If you see “Uninstall”, tap it. If not, tap on “App info”.
-
Then download the latest version from the Play Store or App Store.
Method 2: Update the Instagram app
Outdated apps can be buggy and cause random logouts. Always make sure you’re running the latest version.
Go to your app store (App Store or Play Store) and check for updates for Instagram. If there’s one available, install it and see if that helps.
Method 3: Clear the Instagram app cache
Sometimes, cached data gets corrupted and messes things up. Clearing your cache can help!
On Android:
-
Open your phone’s Settings app and tap “Apps”.
-
Find “Instagram” in the list and tap it.
-
Tap on “Clear data” at the bottom right of the screen.
-
Then, tap on “Clear cache” to delete the cached files.
On iOS:
- Open the Settings app and tap on “General”.
- Tap on “iPhone Storage” to view the list of installed apps.
- Tap on Instagram.
- Tap on “Offload App” to clear the app cache. This keeps your documents, but clears the app data, which can help.
Method 4: Force close Instagram
Sometimes, simply forcing the app to close and then reopening it can help resolve the issue.
-
On Android, go to the “Apps” page in Settings as explained above.
-
Tap on Instagram in the list.
-
Tap on “Force stop” at the bottom of the page.
Then, reopen the app and try to log in.
Method 5: Disconnect additional accounts
Having multiple accounts logged in on the same app might be causing the issue. Try keeping just one logged in.
-
Open the Instagram app and tap on your profile picture at the bottom right.
-
Tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) at the top right.
-
Tap on “Accounts Center”.
-
Then, tap on “Accounts”.
-
Finally, tap “Remove” next to any accounts you want to remove.
Method 6: Get rid of third-party apps
Third-party apps accessing your Instagram account can sometimes cause these issues. Let’s clear them out.
-
Open Instagram in a web browser and sign in to your account.
-
Click on the “Profile” option on the left.
-
On your profile page, click on the gear icon at the top.
-
Click on “Settings and Privacy”.
-
Scroll down and click on “Website permissions”.
-
Click on “Apps and websites”. Now you can remove any apps or websites with access to your account.
Method 7: Change your password
If someone else has logged into your account, this could cause you to get logged out. Changing your password is a good way to secure your account.
-
If you can access the Instagram app from a device, tap on your profile picture on the bottom right.
-
Then, tap on the hamburger menu on the top right.
-
Tap on “Accounts Center”.
-
Tap on “Password and Security”.
-
Tap “Change password” and then select your account, and follow the prompts.
Note: Changing your password using a web browser is similar. After changing your password, sign out of all other devices and then log back in on your phone with the new password.
Method 8: Sign in using your new password
If you recently changed your password on another device but haven’t used it to log in on your current device, you might get logged out. Use your new password on your current device.
Other things to try
- Reboot your phone. Sometimes that just fixes things!
- Make sure your internet connection is stable and try switching between WiFi and mobile data.
- If you’re using a VPN, try disabling it.
- If none of this works, contact Instagram Support - they might have other ideas!
