Atomfall’s post-apocalyptic quarantine zone hides many secrets, including a covert network of Soviet infiltrators. As you explore the irradiated landscape, you’ll uncover clues left behind by these spies and potentially cross paths with the last surviving operative. This dangerous investigation takes you across multiple regions, rewarding your efforts with powerful weapons and insight into the zone’s mysterious past.
Starting the Hunt in Slatten Dale
Your first lead emerges from the wreckage of a downed helicopter in Slatten Dale.
Step 1: Head west from the starting bunker until you reach the crash site at coordinates 28.2E, 71.1N.
Step 2: Search the helicopter to find a coded message on one of the bodies. This note mentions a cache of supplies and kicks off the Infiltrators investigation.
Uncovering the Railyard Cache
The Soviet operatives left behind valuable resources, including an extremely useful crafting recipe.
Step 1: Travel northwest to the Railyard area of Slatten Dale. Look for a shed at 28.5E, 77.1N.
Step 2: Crawl through the narrow opening in the garage door to access the interior.
Step 3: Locate and open the locked box inside. You’ll obtain the Sticky Bomb Crafting Recipe, a powerful tool for your arsenal.
Sticky Bombs require 3 Gunpowder, 6 Glue, and 4 Scrap to craft. These improvised explosives adhere to surfaces before detonating, making them ideal for setting traps or breaching fortified positions.
Tracking the Spies to Casterfell Woods
The trail leads you deeper into the zone, to the forested region of Casterfell Woods.
Step 1: Read the note pinned above the Railyard container for coordinates in Casterfell Woods: 27.0E, 90.6N.
Step 2: To reach Casterfell, use the Sewer Entrance in Slatten Dale (27.9E, 78.7N). Navigate through the tunnels, following signs for Casterfell Woods.
Step 3: Once in Casterfell, make your way northeast to the Garden Centre building.
Step 4: Locate the cellar behind the two-story structure and venture inside.
Step 5: Search thoroughly, including crawling through narrow spaces. You’ll find another Sticky Bomb recipe and a note titled “I Can Hear Voices” pointing you towards Skethermoor.
Infiltrating Skethermoor and Meeting Ilya
The investigation reaches its climax in the dangerous Skethermoor region, patrolled by heavily-armed Protocol soldiers.
Step 1: Access Skethermoor through the southeast exit of Wyndham Village.
Step 2: Carefully make your way to Brinsop Manor Ruins at 39.6E, 772.N. This area isn’t guarded by Protocol forces.
Step 3: Navigate through the destroyed building and into the backyard. Find the hedge maze entrance on the left side.
Step 4: Descend into the cellar, watching for traps. You’ll encounter Ilya Kozlov, the last surviving Soviet infiltrator.
Step 5: Agree to help Ilya repair his radio. He requests 10 Scrap and 4 Glue. Many of these materials can be found within the cellar itself.
Step 6: Return with the supplies. Ilya will say he needs time to work on the radio.
Squeeze through the narrow space in the center of the cellar to find two crates. One contains valuable Training Stimulants.
The Final Twist
Ilya’s true motives are revealed in a surprising turn of events.
Step 1: Return to the cellar after some time has passed. You’ll discover Ilya has vanished.
Step 2: Head to the Secluded Cave in northern Skethermoor (41.2E, 79.4N).
Step 3: Fight through Infected enemies as you explore the cave.
Step 4: Locate Ilya’s body on a ramp inside the cave. He didn’t make it out alive, but he left behind some powerful gear:
- Ilya’s Key
- Falkirk Battle Rifle (^Stock) - An exceptional assault rifle for this stage of the game
Step 5: Before leaving, search near the cave entrance for a Modified JM-3 assault rifle. While rusty, it’s still a capable weapon.
While the Soviet infiltrators may not have survived to tell their tale, this investigation provides valuable insight into the competing factions vying for control of Atomfall’s quarantine zone. The powerful weapons you’ve acquired will prove essential as you continue to unravel the mysteries at the heart of this irradiated landscape.
