How to set Microsoft Edge to Automatically Delete Browser Data

Like other web browsers, Microsoft Edge stores your browsing history to enhance your online experience. This includes cookies, browsing history, passwords, and other data.

If you are concerned about privacy, especially on a shared computer, you might want to clear this data automatically. While Edge doesn’t offer a direct setting to prevent saving data (unless you use InPrivate mode), you can configure it to automatically delete data each time you close the browser.

Automatically Clearing Data on Browser Close

This method is more efficient, as it ensures that your browsing data is cleared every time you close Microsoft Edge.

Step 1: Open the Microsoft Edge browser on your computer.

Step 2: Click the three dots (menu icon) in the upper-right corner and select Settings from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: In the Settings menu, navigate to Privacy, search, and services.

Step 4: Scroll down to the Clear browsing data section on the right-hand side.

Step 5: Click on Choose what to clear every time you close the browser.

Step 6: Toggle the switches to the On position for each type of data you want to automatically clear when you close Edge. Available options include browsing history, cookies and other site data, cached images and files, passwords, and more.

Step 7: If there are specific websites from which you don’t want to clear data, click the Add button under “Sites that always clear data when you close the browser” and enter the website’s URL.

The selected data types will now be automatically cleared each time you close Microsoft Edge.

Manually Clearing Data

Although less effective, manually clearing data is also an option.

To manually clear your browsing data, click the three dots (Edge Menu) and select Clear Browsing Data.

Configuring Edge to clear your browsing data regularly is a good way to protect your privacy. Choose the method that best suits your needs and enjoy a cleaner, more private browsing experience.
