So, you’ve probably heard about Squid Game, the hit South Korean series on Netflix, right? With the second season recently dropping, it looks like Google decided to join in on the fun by hiding a secret mini-game based on the show, and you can play it right in your browser!
Here’s how to get started:
-
Open up the Google app on your phone, then type squid game into the search bar.
-
You’ll see a brown card with a circle, square, and triangle appear within the search results. Tap on that card to launch the game.
Now for the game itself:
-
It’s the iconic Red Light, Green Light game, featuring the creepy doll, Young-hee, and six player icons representing your lives. The doll will say ‘Mugunghwa-kkoci pieot-seumnida’ and then turn away. You need to move your players across the finish line when the doll isn’t facing you.
-
If you move your players while the doll is watching, you lose a life (one player will disappear). If all your players are eliminated, you lose the game. Tap the ‘O’ button to make your players move forward and ‘X’ to stop them.
-
The trick to winning is all about timing. While you can win with just one player making it across, the real challenge is to get all your players across the finish line. If you manage this feat, you’ll see a special victory animation!
Things to know
-
You can play the exact same mini-game in a desktop browser. Just search for ‘squid game’ and click the card.
-
One useful trick is to stop your players just before the song ends and the doll turns. Alternatively, you can press and hold the move button, and your player will only move when you release the button. This method allows for better control of your players’ movement.
-
Don’t bother tapping the move or stop buttons repeatedly. They won’t speed up or stop the players any faster; a single tap is all you need.

Want to make things even more interesting? Challenge your friends by playing at the same time, trying to see who can get the best time, or who can win without losing a player first!
