Google Chat: Hiding and Unhiding Conversations

Keeping your Google Chat organized can really boost your productivity, and hiding those old chats you don’t need is a great way to keep things tidy. Here’s how to hide and unhide conversations to manage your chat list more effectively.

Hiding a chat in Google Chat

  1. To start, open up Google Chat either in your browser or the app. Then, find the conversation in your list that you’d like to hide.

  2. Next to the name of the person or group chat you want to hide, you’ll see three little vertical dots. Give those a click.

  3. A menu will appear. From this menu, select the option that says ‘Hide conversation’.

Now that chat is gone, hidden from your main chat list.


Unhiding a conversation in Google Chat

Method 1: Using the Search Bar

  1. In the Google Chat interface, find the search bar at the top which says Find people and rooms. Type the name of the person whose chat you want to get back.

  2. From the search results, select the person’s name to open up the chat.

The conversation will now reappear in your main chat list.
