It’s easy to miss unread messages in Google Chat when you’ve got a lot going on. Filtering them helps keep your inbox tidy and makes sure you don’t miss anything important. Here’s how to do it.
Method 1: Using the Desktop Version
Step 1:
Head over to chat.google.com in your browser. If you’re not logged in already, go ahead and sign into your Google account.
Step 2:
Make sure you are looking at the ‘Home’ view. You’ll find an ‘Unread’ option on the right-hand side. Click it to show all your unread messages.
Step 3:
You’ll now see a list of all your unread chats. Just click on any conversation to open and read those messages. (Note: If there are no unread messages, the list will be empty, like below.)
Method 2: Using the Mobile App
These steps work for both Android and iOS.
Step 1:
Open the Google Chat app on your phone or tablet.
Step 2:
Double-check that you’re on the ‘Home’ screen. At the top right, tap on ‘Unread’ to see all your unread messages.
Step 3:
A list of unread chats will show up. Tap a contact to jump into that conversation and read the messages.
By filtering for unread messages, you can quickly respond and stay on top of your Google Chat.
