Embed a YouTube Video into Word

Want to spice up your Word documents? Embedding a YouTube video directly into your document can be a game-changer, especially for presentations or educational content. It lets your audience watch the video right there, without having to leave the document. Here’s how you do it.

The process basically involves grabbing the video’s embed code from YouTube, and then pasting it into Word.

Getting the YouTube Embed Code

  1. First, head over to YouTube in your browser and find the video you want.

  2. Click on the video to open its playback page. Under the video player, you’ll see a ‘Share’ button; click on that.

  3. In the share options, select ‘Embed’, it’s usually at the top left of the menu. This will show the embed code you need.

  1. Now, a box with the embed code should pop up. Click inside the box and press Ctrl + A to select all the code, then copy it using Ctrl + C or by right-clicking and choosing ‘Copy’. If you need the video to start at a specific time, you can tick the “Start at” box and enter your preferred timestamp.

Now, that embed code is copied to your clipboard, ready for Word.

Inserting the Video into Word

  1. Open your Microsoft Word document and click where you want to insert the YouTube video.

  2. Go to the ‘Insert’ tab at the top of the Word window.

  3. In the ‘Insert’ tab, you’ll see a ‘Media’ group, click on ‘Online Video’. This lets you insert video from the web directly into your document.

  1. The ‘Insert Video’ dialog will appear. Find and click the text box labelled ‘From a Video Embed Code’.

  2. Paste the YouTube embed code into that text box. Press Ctrl + V, or right-click and select ‘Paste’. After you’ve pasted the code, hit ‘Insert’.

  3. Your YouTube video is now embedded right where your cursor was. You can resize the video by dragging the corners, and adjust text wrapping by clicking ‘Layout Options’ when the video is selected.

  4. To play the video, just click on it in your document. A little playback window, like the YouTube player, will show up. Then you can just press the ‘Play’ button.

Now you can control the playback – pausing, skipping, and adjusting the volume – all without leaving your Word document.

By embedding YouTube videos, your Word documents become more interactive and engaging.
