Hey everyone,
Ever wanted to view two web pages at the same time in Edge? The built-in split screen feature is awesome for multitasking and getting things done quicker. It lets you put two different websites side by side within one browser window. Here’s how to use it:
Method 1: Using the Split Screen Button
-
First, go to the webpage you want on the left side of the split view.
-
Next, you’ll want to click the ‘Split screen’ icon. It’s usually next to the address bar at the top of your Edge browser.
-
When you click the split screen icon, your current window will divide in two. The page you were just on will stay on the left, and the right side will show thumbnails of your open tabs.
-
From the thumbnails shown, choose a tab to display on the right, or type a new address in the address bar to open another page.
-
You should now see two different webpages displayed side-by-side.
Split screen tabs are easily identified. They have a purple line underneath them, even when many tabs are open.
Method 2: Opening Links in Split Screen
-
Start by opening the page that has the link you’d like to see side-by-side with another page.
-
Right-click the link and then select ‘Open link in split screen window’ from the menu.
-
Your screen will immediately split, the original webpage stays on the left, and the linked page appears on the right.
Managing Split Screen
Once you have set up the split screen, there are several ways to manage your view. If you hover your mouse over either side of the split screen, you will see a three-dot menu button with different options.
-
To resize the split screen sections, move your cursor over the divider between them. Then, click and drag to adjust the sizes as you like.
-
To exit split screen mode and return your pages to individual tabs, hover over either side of the screen, click the three-dot menu, and pick ‘Exit split screen view’.
-
You can also swap the positions of the left and right tabs. To do this, click the three-dot menu on either side, and select ‘Switch left and right tabs’.
-
If you’d rather view the split screen vertically instead of horizontally, click the three-dot menu and choose ‘Switch to vertical view’.
-
To open a webpage from the split screen in a new regular tab, click the three-dot menu button in that section, and select ‘Open this webpage in a new tab.’ This will duplicate the page without closing it in split view.
-
To close one of the split screens, just hover over it and click the ‘X’ in the top right corner, or click the ‘Split screen’ button when that side is selected.
Links can be configured to behave differently in split screen mode. You can choose whether they open in the same section, or on the opposite side.
-
To have links clicked in the left tab open in the right section, click the three-dot menu and select ‘Link tabs’. Note that it only works this way around, from left to right.
-
To switch back to having links open in the same section, click ‘Unlink tabs’ from the three-dot menu. This is the default setting.
Enabling Split Screen (if it’s not showing)
If you don’t see the split screen feature, you might need to enable it. Here’s how:
