Hey everyone,
Is Chrome’s auto sign-in feature giving you a hard time? It’s super convenient when it works, but it can be frustrating when it stops saving new passwords or auto-filling the ones you’ve already saved. If you’re dealing with this issue, don’t worry! I’ve got some solutions that should help you get things back on track.
Method 1: Uninstall and Reinstall Chrome
Sometimes, a clean slate is what you need. Reinstalling Chrome can iron out many kinks. Here’s how:
- Open the Start Menu and type
Control Panel
to search for it. Click on the ‘Control Panel’ to open it.
- In the Control Panel, find and click on ‘Programs and Features’.
- From the list, select ‘Google Chrome’ and hit the ‘Uninstall’ button.
- Once uninstalled, use your current browser to go to chrome.google.com and download a fresh copy by clicking the “Download Chrome” button.
- Locate the downloaded
.EXE
file in your downloads folder, and double-click it to begin the installation.
Method 2: Reset Google Chrome to Default
If a full reinstall seems a bit much, resetting Chrome to its defaults is a good alternative. This will clear out settings that may be causing conflicts.
- Go to Chrome’s home page, click the three vertical dots (kebab menu) and choose ‘Settings’.
- Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab in the left sidebar, then ‘Reset and cleanup’.
- In the right panel, select ‘Restore settings to their original defaults’.
- Finally, click the ‘Reset Settings’ button to confirm and reset Chrome.
Method 3: Disable Problematic Extensions
Extensions are awesome, but sometimes they can mess with browser functions. Let’s see if any of them are causing your password woes.
- Open Chrome, click on the kebab menu, hover over ‘More tools’, and select ‘Extensions’.
- Turn off all your extensions by toggling the switches to the ‘Off’ position.
- Restart Chrome and see if the issue is fixed. If it is, go back to the extensions page.
- Start enabling your extensions one by one, testing the password saving function each time.
- Once you’ve identified the culprit, click the ‘Remove’ button to get rid of it.
Method 4: Log out and Back in From your Google Account
Sometimes, simply logging out of your Google account in Chrome and then logging back in can resolve this issue.
- Launch Chrome.
- Click on the kebab menu and then select ‘Settings’.
- Make sure ‘You and Google’ is selected on the left sidebar.
- Click the ‘Turn off’ button next to your email address.
- In the prompt, check the box to ‘Clear bookmarks, history, passwords, and more from this device’ and then click on ‘Turn off’ to sign out.
- Restart Chrome and sign back into your Google account and check if the issue is resolved.
Method 5: Check your Password Settings
It’s always a good idea to double-check your password settings, just in case something was changed by mistake.
- Open Chrome and click on the kebab menu and then go to ‘Settings’.
- Select the ‘Auto-fill’ tab from the left sidebar.
- Choose the ‘Passwords’ option.
- Make sure the switch next to ‘Offer to save passwords’ is turned ‘On’.
- Also, ensure that ‘Auto Sign-in’ switch is toggled to the ‘On’ position.
Method 6: Make Sure you have the Latest Version of Chrome
Keeping your browser up to date is crucial for performance and security.
- Launch the Chrome app.
- Click the kebab menu, hover over ‘Help’, and then click ‘About Google Chrome’.
- Chrome will check for updates. If there is an update available, click the ‘Update’ button. If not, move on to the next method.
Hopefully, one of these methods helps get Chrome saving your passwords again!
