Hey everyone! Ever thought about grabbing all your photos and stories from Instagram? Maybe you want a safe backup, or you’re planning a social media detox. Good news - Instagram makes it pretty easy to download everything, whether you’re on your phone or computer. The process is almost identical on both.
-
Open Instagram on your computer or phone and tap “More” in the bottom left corner.
-
Next, hit “Settings”.
-
On the settings page, find and select “Personal details” within the “Meta Accounts Center” section.
-
Click on “Your information and permissions”.
-
Then, select “Download your information”.
-
In the “Download Your Information” window, click “Download or transfer information”.
-
Choose whether you want to download all of your data or only some of it.
-
If you pick “Some of your information”, you can specify exactly what you want, like just your photos, videos, and stories. Check the “Content” box and then click “Next”.
-
Now, choose whether to download the data directly to your device or transfer it to a cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive by clicking “Download to device” or “Transfer to destination.”
-
Click on “Date range” to specify the period you’re interested in.
-
Finally, once you’ve set the date range, hit “Start transfer” or “Create files”.
-
Instagram will process your request and send you an email when your files are ready. You’ll have four days to download them.
important reminders
- On the Instagram mobile app, tap your profile picture, then the hamburger menu (three lines) at the top right. You’ll find the Meta Accounts Center there and can follow the steps outlined above.
- If transferring data to Google Drive or Dropbox, make sure you have enough free space!
- If you miss the four-day download window, you’ll need to submit a new request.
- Be careful when handling your downloaded data, as it might contain personal information.
