By default, Google Sheets cells come with a set size, which can be a pain when your text gets cut off or overlaps other cells. This makes it hard to read your data correctly. Let’s look at how to fix this.
Method 1: Resizing All Cells at Once
Sometimes you’ve got overflowing data all over the place, and fixing every single cell is just too much hassle. Here’s how to quickly resize everything.
-
First, click the ‘Select All’ button. It’s the little box at the top-left corner of the sheet, right where the row numbers and column letters meet. This will select your entire sheet.
-
Next, hover your mouse over the line between any of the column headers. You’ll see the cursor change into a double-sided arrow. Then, click and drag that line to adjust the width of all your columns.
-
You can also do the same thing for row heights. Hover over a row boundary, click, and drag to adjust all row heights at once.
Method 2: Adjusting a Single Cell’s Size Automatically
If you just need a quick fix for a few cells, here’s how to do it automatically.
- To automatically resize a column, hover your cursor over the line between the column headers, and wait for the double-sided arrow to appear. Then, double-click on the line. The column will automatically resize to fit the longest entry in that column.
Method 3: Manually Adjusting a Single Cell’s Size
If you need more specific control over the size of a cell, you can also manually adjust it.
- Hover the cursor over the boundary between column headers. When it turns into a double-sided arrow, click and drag to set the custom width you want.
By resizing your cells, you’ll make sure all your info is clear and easy to read, which is always a plus!
