Adjusting app volume in Windows 11

Hey everyone, here’s a quick guide on how to manage sound levels for individual apps in Windows 11. Ever had one app blasting audio while another is barely audible? This will help you fix that!

Method 1: Using Volume Mixer

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar (usually at the bottom right of your screen). From the menu that pops up, select Open Volume Mixer.

  1. The Volume Mixer window will now be visible. You’ll see sliders for each app that’s currently playing sound. Just drag the sliders to the left to lower the volume, or to the right to increase it for each specific app.

Important: Apps only show up in the Volume Mixer when they’re actually running and producing sound. If you don’t see an app, open it first!

Method 2: Quick Settings Panel

  1. Click the speaker icon in the taskbar, or press Win + A to bring up the Quick Settings panel.

  1. In the Quick Settings, look for the main volume slider. To the right of it, click on the little sound output icon.

  1. Scroll down until you see the “Volume Mixer” section. Here you will find sliders to adjust the volume for each application currently running.

Keep in mind that these volume settings are temporary and will reset when you close and reopen the application. They only affect the volume while the app is running.

While there are third-party apps out there for advanced audio management, Windows 11’s built-in Volume Mixer should be sufficient for most users.
