Adding and modifying your Gmail signature

Gmail signatures are a great way to add a professional touch to your emails. They can include your name, contact information, and even social media links. Here’s how you can set up and customize your signature on both desktop and mobile platforms.

Method 1: Creating a signature on Gmail web

  1. Start by opening Gmail and clicking the gear icon in the top-right corner to access settings.

  1. From the dropdown, select ‘See all settings’ to access the full settings menu.

  1. Scroll down to the ‘Signature’ section and click ‘Create new’ to begin crafting your signature.

  1. Give your signature a name in the pop-up window, then click ‘Create’ to proceed.

  1. Now, enter the text for your signature in the box on the right side of the screen.

  1. Configure your signature preferences by selecting it from the dropdown menus under ‘Signature defaults’ for new emails and replies/forwards.

  1. Don’t forget to click ‘Save changes’ at the bottom of the page to apply your new signature settings.

  1. To modify your signature later, return to the settings page using the gear icon and ‘See all settings’ option.

  1. In the ‘Signature’ section, click on the signature you want to edit.

  1. Make your desired changes to the signature text. You can use the formatting tools below to adjust font styles, add bold or italic text, and even insert images.

  1. After making your changes, scroll down and click ‘Save changes’ to update your signature.

Method 2: Setting up a signature on the Gmail mobile app

The mobile app allows you to create a separate signature for emails sent from your device. This mobile signature will override your web signature when you’re using the app.

  1. Open the Gmail app and tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.

  2. Select ‘Settings’ from the menu options.


  1. For Android users, tap your email address or profile picture, then select ‘Mobile signature’.

  2. iOS users should tap ‘Signature Settings’ and enable the ‘Mobile Signature’ toggle.


  1. Enter your desired signature text and tap ‘OK’ to save it.

Modifying your signature on Android

  1. Open Gmail and tap the menu icon, then select ‘Settings’.


  1. Tap on your email address.

  2. Scroll down and select ‘Mobile signature’.


  1. Edit your signature in the text box provided.

Updating your signature on iOS

  1. Launch Gmail and go to Settings via the menu icon.

  2. Tap ‘Signature settings’.

  3. Edit your existing signature as needed.


Key points to remember:

  • If you don’t set a mobile signature, your web signature will be used by default.
  • Mobile signatures only appear in emails sent from mobile devices.
  • You can create multiple signatures for different purposes in Gmail.
