Google Calendar offers a great selection of colors for customization, but sometimes you might want even more options. Luckily, you can add your own custom colors to make your calendar truly unique. Here’s a step-by-step guide to personalizing your Google Calendar with custom colors.
Step 1: Choose your color palette
First, you’ll need to pick out the colors you want to use. A great tool for this is the Coolors website.
- Head over to the Coolors website and hit the Spacebar to generate a new color palette.
- Keep generating new palettes until you find one you like. Once you’ve settled on a palette, you’ll need to save the hex codes for each color. Hover over a color, click ‘Copy hex’ when it appears, and store it somewhere for later use. Do this for all the colors in your chosen palette.
Step 2: Apply custom colors to your Google Calendar
Now that you have your colors picked out, it’s time to add them to your calendar.
-
Navigate to the Google Calendar website and sign in to your account.
-
Look for the ‘Other calendars’ section on the left side of the page. Click the ‘+’ icon next to it to create a new calendar.
- In the pop-up window, select ‘Create new calendar’.
- Give your new calendar a name and description, then click ‘Create calendar’.
-
Your new calendar will appear under ‘My Calendars’. You can repeat this process to create multiple calendars for different purposes.
-
To set a custom color, hover over the calendar name and click the three dots that appear next to it.
- You’ll see a selection of default colors. To use a custom color, click the ‘+’ icon below these options.
- A color swatch will appear. To use one of your saved colors from Coolors, paste the hex code (including the #) into the box below the swatch. Click ‘Save’ to apply the color.
- Repeat these steps to add more custom colors and customize your other calendars.
Step 3: Create events with your new custom colors
Once you’ve set up your custom colors, creating new events is a breeze.
- Simply click on a date in your calendar and enter the event name.
- Add any additional details like guests, location, or description, then click ‘Save’. Your event will automatically use the custom color you set for that calendar.
Important things to remember
- Each calendar will use its custom color by default for all new events.
- Custom colors work in Dark Mode, but it’s a good idea to test how they look.
- There’s currently no way to remove a custom color once added, but you can add multiple colors.
- Your custom colors will sync across all devices where you use Google Calendar.
With these steps, you can create a visually appealing and well-organized Google Calendar that suits your personal style and needs.
