When will Google officially announce Android 16?

Google’s unveiling of Android 16 is highly anticipated following the release of two developer previews and the first beta version. While these releases have given us a sneak peek at the new operating system’s features, the official public introduction is still on the horizon.

Typically, Google unveils the full details of a new Android version at its annual Google I/O event. The dates for Google I/O have been announced. Here’s what we know.

In a blog post, Google revealed that Google I/O will take place on May 20 and 21, 2025, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. The event will also be live-streamed on YouTube.

Google has stated that the event will cover “Google’s newest products, technologies, and innovations in AI, Android, and more.” Although Android 16 wasn’t explicitly mentioned, past events strongly suggest that the new OS will be a key highlight at Google I/O 2025.

Of course, AI, particularly Gemini, is also expected to be a prominent topic at Google I/O 2025. Google notes, “We’ll start day one with keynotes, followed by sessions, demos, networking opportunities and more continuing on day two.”

Google I/O 2025 is shaping up to be the place where Android 16 finally makes its full debut.
