Turn Off Visual Image Search in Microsoft Edge

Ever been browsing and stumble upon an image you want to know more about? I know I have! I was recently looking at some pics of exotic birds, but couldn’t find any info on what kind of species they were. This is where Microsoft Edge’s Visual Image Search can be pretty helpful.

The Visual Image feature lets you take any random image you find on a webpage and search for it online. Using it gives you reverse image search results directly in your Edge browser.

While this is a cool feature, not everyone needs it, and you may want to disable it to streamline your browsing experience. It seems that Microsoft is now enabling it by default. So, to turn it off, you need to do it manually. Let’s see how it’s done.

Disabling visual image search in edge

There are two main ways to start a visual image search in Edge: by hovering over an image or via the right-click menu. You can choose to disable one, both, or neither of these methods.

Let’s look at the most effective way to disable visual search first.

Method 1: Disabling Visual Search From Context Menu and Hover

  1. Start by opening the Microsoft Edge browser on your computer.
  2. Next, click on the three-dot menu (Settings and more) at the top-right corner of the window.
  3. From the menu that appears, choose the ‘Settings’ option.
  4. A new tab with the settings will open.
  5. In the navigation menu on the left, click on ‘Appearance’.
  6. Scroll down until you find the ‘Context menus’ section.
  7. Under ‘Context menus’, click on ‘Visual search’.
  8. Now, toggle the switch next to ‘Show visual search in the context menu’ to disable the feature when you right-click on any image.
  9. If you want to disable the visual search when hovering over an image, toggle the button next to the ‘Show visual search on image hover’ option. This might not work on all sites, but it’s worth disabling to minimize distractions.

Method 2: Disabling visual search for specific sites

  1. If you want to disable visual search for specific websites, click on the ‘Add’ button in the same settings menu.
  2. A popup will appear. Enter the URL of the website you want to block the visual search feature on. You’ll have to add URLs one at a time.
