Syncing Tabs Across Chrome, Edge, and Firefox

Having a way to sync your browser tabs across different platforms like Chrome, Edge, and Firefox can be a real game-changer. While these browsers don’t have a built-in cross-sync feature, the ‘Tab Session Manager’ extension does a fantastic job.

Once you’ve got the extension set up, you’ll be able to easily pull up and open tabs from one browser in another, no matter which browser you’re working with.

Installing Tab Session Manager on Multiple Browsers

You’ll find the ‘Tab Session Manager’ extension in each browser’s respective extension store. This includes Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. It needs to be installed on every browser you want to sync. The installation process is pretty much the same for each, so we’ll go through it using Chrome as an example.

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store by going to chrome.google.com/webstore in a new tab.
  2. Type ‘Tab Session Manager’ in the search bar and hit ENTER.
  3. Look for ‘Tab Session Manager’ by ‘Sienori’ in the search results and select it.
  4. Click the ‘Add to Chrome’ button to get the extension.
  5. A confirmation dialog will pop up, click ‘Add extension’ to continue.

Now that it’s on Chrome, you can head over to the Firefox Add-ons site to install it on Firefox, and also find it on the Edge Add-ons store.

Configuring Tab Session Manager

Now, let’s get the extension set up.

  1. Click the ‘Extensions’ icon (it looks like a puzzle piece) on your toolbar and then select ‘Tab Session Manager’.
  2. In the extension’s popup, find and click the ‘Settings’ icon located at the top-right.
  3. Scroll down the ‘Settings’ page until you see the ‘Device name’ field. Give your browser a unique name, something like ‘Chrome Laptop’ or ‘Firefox Desktop’. Also, make sure to check ‘Save device name to session’. This will be helpful to differentiate between the tabs from different browsers.
  4. Make sure the ‘Save the session regularly’ option is enabled. Set your desired save interval and the number of sessions you wish to keep.
  5. Find the ‘Enable cloud sync (Beta)’ section and click on ‘Sign in with Google’. This backs up your session info to Google Drive for syncing. Don’t forget to check the ‘Automatically sync’ option to keep things current.
  6. You’ll see a permission request; click ‘Allow’ to grant the extension access to your Google account.
  7. Enter the email address you want to use for synchronization and click ‘Next’. Use the same account for all browsers if you want them to sync together.
  8. Input your Google account password and click ‘Next’ to continue.
  9. Grant ‘Tab Session Manager’ permission to manage data on your Google Drive by clicking ‘Allow’. This lets the extension save and sync your session data.
  10. Review the requested permissions and click ‘Allow’ one last time to finish the set-up.

Make sure you repeat all of these steps on every browser where you’ve installed the extension, and be sure to sign into each using the same Google account.

Synchronizing Tabs Using Tab Session Manager

With the extension configured on all your browsers, you can easily sync tabs between them.

  1. Click on the ‘Tab Session Manager’ extension icon.

  2. Click the ‘Sync’ icon, it’s usually near the top of the popup, to perform a manual sync of the sessions.

Once synced, you’ll see a list of all your sessions from each browser. These are labeled with the active tab name and the device name you set earlier. This makes it super simple to see which tabs are from which browser.

  3. Click on a session name to see all the tabs within that specific session. Then, just click any tab to open it in your current browser.

  4. You can also hover over the name of a session and click the ‘Open’ icon. This will open all the tabs from that session in a new window.

It’s a good idea to sync every now and then to make sure you’re working with the most up-to-date sessions.

And that’s it! Using ‘Tab Session Manager’ really simplifies the process of syncing your tabs between Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
