Speed Up Microsoft Edge with Startup Boost

Having a browser that launches quickly can really make a difference to your workflow, especially when you need to get online fast. Microsoft Edge has a feature called Startup boost that helps with this. It preloads essential processes as soon as you log into your computer.

This means that even when Edge isn’t actively open, key parts of the browser are running in the background. Then, when you want to use it, it pops right up with virtually no delay. It can dramatically improve your browsing experience by eliminating frustrating wait times.

The Startup boost feature made its first appearance in Microsoft Edge version 88, initially rolling out to Edge Canary builds. Luckily, this is no longer limited to early releases, and is now available for everyone using the stable version of Microsoft Edge.

To enable this, here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, open Microsoft Edge. Then, look for the Menu icon (it’s the three dots) in the top right corner of the window and click it.

  2. In the dropdown that appears, scroll down until you see Settings, and select it.

  3. On the left side of the Settings window, you’ll see a list of options. Click on System.
  4. In the System settings, you should see the Startup boost option near the top. Simply click the toggle switch to turn it on. When it’s enabled, the switch will turn blue.

Note: If for some reason you don’t see the Startup boost option, try closing Edge completely (make sure to close all open windows) and relaunching it. This should make the option appear.

With Startup boost turned on, Microsoft Edge should now launch much quicker. If you decide to disable it later, simply follow the same steps and toggle the switch off.
