Seamless Cross-Device Workflows Arrive in Windows 11 with KB5050092 Update

The KB5050092 update is now available for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, bringing enhanced cross-device capabilities. Microsoft aims to streamline workflows between your PC and mobile devices.

Windows 11 now allows you to seamlessly continue working on files from your iOS or Android phone on your PC. This functionality extends to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and PDF files, provided you’re signed into OneDrive and your PC with the same Microsoft account. The best part? You can resume your work even if your PC is locked, as long as you sign in within five minutes.

The Redmond tech giant has been actively developing cross-platform features between PCs and Android & iOS devices.

Effortless File Sharing Between Devices via the Start Menu

The KB5050092 update enhances the file-sharing experience directly from the Start menu. This streamlined approach lets you quickly move files between your PC, Android, and iOS devices.

Step 1: Open the Start menu.

Step 2: Locate the file you want to share. You can either search for the file or find it within your file system via the File Explorer accessible from the Start menu.

Step 3: Right-click on the file. A context menu will appear.

Step 4: Select the “Share” option. A sharing dialog will appear.

Step 5: Choose your connected Android or iOS device from the list of available sharing targets. Ensure your device is properly connected to your PC.

Step 6: Confirm the file transfer on both your PC and your mobile device. The file will then be transferred to the designated location on your mobile device.

Continuing Your Work Across Devices

If you are using Microsoft applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and PDF files, you can leverage OneDrive to continue your work across devices seamlessly.

Step 1: Ensure you have the OneDrive app installed on both your Windows 11 PC and your iOS or Android device.

Step 2: Sign in to the OneDrive app on both devices using the same Microsoft account.

Step 3: Open the file you want to work on from within the OneDrive folder on your mobile device.

Step 4: Make edits or add content to the file. OneDrive will automatically sync these changes to the cloud.

Step 5: On your Windows 11 PC, open the same file from within the OneDrive folder. You will see the changes you made on your mobile device reflected in the file. You can now continue working on the file from where you left off.

Start Menu Integration

iPhone users can now directly access certain features from the Start menu, mirroring functionality already available to Android users through Phone Link.

New users can also easily connect their devices to the PC through the Start menu.

File Explorer Improvements

The KB5050092 update also revamps the user experience in File Explorer. It now allows direct sharing to apps from File Explorer and includes a “New Folder” option in the left pane’s right-click menu, along with various other fixes.

The KB5050092 update represents a significant step towards a more integrated and seamless cross-device experience for Windows 11 users. These enhancements make it easier than ever to stay productive, regardless of the device you’re using.
