It’s great that Apple finally brought Safari extensions to iPhones with iOS 15! This opens up a ton of customization options, combining the flexibility of extensions with Safari’s built-in privacy features.
Safari extensions on iOS work very similarly to apps, and there are two ways to get them. Let’s jump right into it:
Method 1: Installing via the App Store
This is the easiest way to get your hands on Safari extensions. It’s just like downloading any other app.
First, open the ‘App Store’ app on your iPhone.
Next, tap the ‘Search’ icon at the bottom right.
Now, type “safari extensions” into the search bar at the top, then tap the ‘Search’ button on the keyboard.
Finally, browse the available extensions and tap ‘Get’ on the ones you want to install.
Method 2: Installing via Safari Settings
While slightly longer, this method is useful if you’re already tweaking your Safari settings and want an extension. It keeps you from switching apps.
Start by opening the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and find ‘Safari’, then tap it.
Tap ‘Extensions’, located under the ‘General’ section.
Now, tap ‘More Extensions’ which will take you to the App Store page for Safari Extensions.
Finally, just tap the ‘Get’ button on the extensions you want.
Disabling Installed Safari Extensions
You might need to disable an extension sometimes. Here’s how you do it:
First, open the ‘Settings’ app.
Then, find and tap ‘Safari’.
Next, go to the ‘Extensions’ section under ‘General’.
Finally, toggle the switch next to the extension you want to disable to the ‘Off’ position.
