Minecraft’s unified launcher through Microsoft Store makes game management much simpler on Windows 11. Whether you’re troubleshooting issues or need a fresh start, you can reinstall the game while keeping or removing your saved worlds based on your preference.

Keep your saved games while reinstalling

This method lets you preserve all your progress, worlds, and settings while getting a fresh installation of the game.

  1. Launch File Explorer using the taskbar icon or press Windows + E

  1. Access the AppData folder by typing %AppData% in the address bar

  1. Back up your .minecraft folder by copying it (Ctrl + C) to another location

  1. Delete the original .minecraft folder using Shift + Delete

  2. Start Minecraft Launcher through Windows Search

  1. Connect your Microsoft account through the login button

  1. Select your Minecraft version and click Play

  1. Exit both the game and launcher after installation

  2. Find your backed-up .minecraft folder

  1. Return to the AppData folder using %AppData%

  1. Restore your saved games by pasting the backup folder

  1. Start the game to access your restored worlds
