Chrome’s Live Caption feature is great for accessibility, but it only supports English right now. If you don’t need it or find it a bit distracting, here’s how to switch it off.
Method 1: Disabling Through Accessibility Settings
This method is the most effective for permanently disabling the feature.
-
Click the three dots (the menu button) at the top right of your Chrome window, then choose “Settings”.
-
In the settings, click on “Advanced” to see more options, and then pick “Accessibility”.
-
You can also jump straight to this by typing
chrome://settings/accessibility
in the address bar. -
Find the “Live Caption” setting and toggle the switch to the “Off” position.
Method 2: Disabling From the Media Control Panel
This method will disable the captions temporarily, only while a specific media is playing.
-
Start playing any video or audio content in Chrome. Next, click the “Media Control” icon, which is located next to your address bar.
-
In the media panel that pops up, locate the “Live Caption” option and toggle it to the “Off” position. This will turn off live captions just for the media you are currently watching or listening to.
These are two simple ways to turn off Chrome’s Live Caption. You can always turn it back on using either of these methods if you change your mind.
