Chrome’s ‘Enhanced Spell Check’ is a pretty cool feature that uses Google’s tech to make sure you’re not butchering the English language. It’s the same tech they use in Google Search to correct your searches, so it’s pretty accurate. Just a heads up, though: turning it on means Chrome sends your text to Google, so if you’re all about privacy, keep that in mind.
Enable enhanced spell check in chrome for desktop
-
First, fire up Chrome on your computer. Then, click those three little dots (the kebab menu) in the top-right corner to see the menu. Then just select “Settings”.
-
Once you’re in Settings, look on the left sidebar and click “Advanced” to expand it, and then go to “Languages”.
-
In the Languages section, find the “Spell check” area. You’ll see a few options – choose the “Enhanced spell check” option to turn it on. Pick the languages you want to use for spell checking too.
Customize spell check
Chrome lets you add words that you use often to the spell check dictionary so that it doesn’t flag them as errors. It is very simple to set it up.
-
Go back to the “Languages” settings we just used.
-
Find the “Spell check” section again, and this time, click “Customize spell check”, which you’ll find just under the Enhanced spell check option.
-
There’s a “Custom words” field where you can type in any word you want to add. Just type it in and click “Add word,” and Chrome will stop flagging it in the future.
-
If you need to get rid of a word, simply hover your mouse over it and click the little “x” next to it.
That’s pretty much everything you need to know about enabling and setting up Chrome’s Enhanced Spell Check. It is very useful feature, just be mindful of the privacy implications.
