Email Recall Feature Coming Soon to Outlook for iOS and Android

The ability to recall emails is making its way to the Outlook app for iOS and Android, bringing it in line with the functionality already present in Outlook for Windows and Mac. This much-awaited feature promises greater control over sent messages directly from your mobile device.

Recalling Emails in Outlook Mobile

The most effective way to recall an email is directly through the Outlook app’s menu. This method provides immediate access to the recall option after sending an email.

Step 1: Open the Outlook app on your iOS or Android device.

Step 2: Navigate to the email you wish to recall in your Sent Items folder.

Step 3: Open the email.

Step 4: Tap the ... button (usually located in the top-right corner of the email).

Step 5: Select Recall Message from the menu.

Step 6: Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the recall.

After initiating the recall, you’ll receive a notification via email indicating whether the recall was successful.

Important Considerations for Email Recall

This feature is designed to work primarily within organizations using Microsoft 365. Emails sent to external recipients or very old emails might not be successfully recalled.

  • The recall feature is primarily for emails sent between Microsoft 365 accounts within the same organization.
  • The success of the recall may vary depending on the recipient’s email settings and whether they have already read the message.
  • Very old emails might not be eligible for recall.

Microsoft plans a phased rollout of this feature, initially targeting Android beta testers and iOS TestFlight users. The mobile email client will also gain the ability to minimize email drafts, facilitating easier multitasking.

The email recall feature on Outlook mobile offers a convenient way to retract mistakenly sent messages. This update will enhance the overall user experience and bring feature parity across different Outlook platforms.
